Welcome to our gites in the Pyrenees with which we hope to be able to offer wonderful holidays for couples in the Languedoc Roussillon. We are pleased to offer you -  La Terrasse and The Orchard Studio.

We are situated approximately 45 miles west of Perpignan and

we moved to this area of the  South of France  in 2005 and consider ourselves to be very lucky that we found this untouched area.

We have two clean, comfortable and very well equipped    gites in the Languedoc-Roussillon region and  both are available to rent all year round  offering complete relaxation and comfortable holidays for couples.

Since we live here and speak French we are happy to help in any way we can to make sure you make the most of your holiday whilst staying in our gites: you might need help booking a table at a restaurant, planning a day out to the coast or choosing one of the best places to have a picnic,  all you need to do is ask.

This area is simply beautiful . The villages of Fosse and Le Vivier are nestled at the top of a gorge flanked by the ancient castles of the village of Fenouillet. Our gites offer our guests the unique experience of rural France and are the perfect base from which to explore the glorious countryside of the Fenouilledes by car, bicycle or foot. Although the villages are tucked away, they are not  isolated and the nearest large supermarket is 15 minutes drive away in Saint Paul de Fenouillet . The bread and grocery vans visit regularly and this is a great way to meet the locals, there is even a pizza van in Fosse that comes weekly.

There are many open air markets in the surrounding villages of the Pyrenees-Orientales where you can stock up on fresh bread and locally grown vegetables as well as cheeses and wines from the region. However, try not to rush as there is always time to sit in a café and watch the world go by.

You could stop off on your way home and have a picnic or let yourself be pampered in a local restaurant. You will soon find out why this is considered to be one of the friendliest and best kept secrets in France.

Over a thousand years ago the Cathars lived their frugal lives in this area, protected by castles built on the most inaccessible peaks. They can be visited and the views from them are simply breathtaking. Queribus, Peyrepertuse and Puilaurens are all within a 25 minute.

If the the books the Da Vinci Code, Labyrinth, and The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail have interested you, they all have connections with this area. Bring your pendulums and divining rods....

You can also visit the old Chapitre at Saint Paul de Fenouillet which dates back to the 9th century and was believed to be built by the Templars (so the curator told me)

Although there is a wide variety days out available by car, many places of interest are closer at hand  and can be explored by foot. You can wander all day through unspoilt countryside without seeing another soul, and when it is hot the nearby forest of Boucheville is waiting to be explored or you can have a swim in the large open air pool in Fosse which is open 6 afternoons per week throughout July and August.

Spring time in the South of France is a wonderful time to visit. You will see some beautiful wild flowers, especially the wild orchids which  are spectacular. Miniature alpine narcissi, irises and fritillaria all grow nearby.

Bird watching in the South of France offers a wide variety of birdlife, from the comical hoopoe, the elusive golden oriel and the european bee-eater to the huge raptors which can be seen circling high above.

If you like the idea of  walking in the Pyrenees  we would suggest you come during April and May or from September to November when the heat of the summer has passed.

Driving in this area is a joy - the roads are quiet and the scenery superb. There are so many places to visit and the terrain is so varied you will be spoilt for choice. Please look at our page of things to do and see.
